On the back of news that Emiliano Martinez is close to penning a new deal with Arsenal, follow-up reports this evening suggest that the Gunners have also decided against the sale of Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
Mikel Arteta’s men got their 2020/21 campaign underway last night, in a Community Shield meeting with Liverpool.
Arsenal of course booked their spot in the Wembley showpiece courtesy of an FA Cup triumph earlier this month, whilst opponents Liverpool brought an end to the club’s long-standing wait for Premier League supremacy.
When all was said and done in the English capital 24 hours ago, though, it was the former, viewed by the majority as heavy underdogs, who went on to secure victory.
The capital giants took the lead in the clash through star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, before Takumi Minamino levelled things up with his first in English football 15 minutes from time.
As such, with the score at 1-1 following 90 minutes, and extra-time not on the cards, a penalty shootout was forthcoming.
And, following 10 efforts from the spot, a single Rhian Brewster miss eventually proved decisive, as Arsenal bagged the club’s 2nd piece of silverware in the space of a month.

AMN staying put
A number of Arsenal’s stars impressed over the course of the 90 minutes on Saturday, with the likes of David Luiz, Kieran Tierney and Mohamed Elneny having all looked superb.
The Gunners’ standout performer, however, proved to be Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
Versatile stopper Maitland-Niles, after impressing with a number of stellar displays over the course of Arsenal’s run-in last season, carried his excellence into proceedings at Wembley, patrolling the left-hand side with energy and poise.
As such, it came as little surprise when the 23-year-old was rewarded with the Man of the Match award:
Birthday boy. Man of the match. Wembley winner.

As showcased above, in their follow-up post, celebrating birthday boy Maitland-Niles’ performance, Arsenal questioned how things could ‘get any better’ for the Englishman.
But, if the latest speculation in the media today is to be believed, then better is precisely how things have since gotten for AMN.
As per a growing number of reports, the former Ipswich loanee has been taken off the market.
According to the likes of Sky Sports, Wolves, who had been labelled as outright favourites to land Maitland-Niles this summer, are now of the belief that Arsenal will not sanction a sale.
‘One source has told Sky Sports News that Arsenal are now looking into a new deal for the defender, who still has three years left on his present contract.’
Wolves’ pursuit of Ainsley Maitland-Niles looks to be at an end as they now believe Arsenal want to keep him at the Emirates.
