Reports in the Spanish media today suggest that Luis Suarez could now in fact remain at Barcelona for the 2020/21 campaign.

Barca chaos

The situation at La Liga giants Barcelona has of course taken centre stage across the European media over the last couple of weeks.

This comes on the back of yet another embarrassing exit from the Champions League, courtesy of an 8-2 drubbing at the hands of eventual champions Bayern Munich.

Grabbing the majority of the headlines over the time since has been Lionel Messi, who, up until last week, appeared almost certain to depart Catalunya, after making his intentions to seek out pastures new clear.

In the end, however, Barcelona essentially forced their captain’s arm, resulting in the Argentine begrudgingly confirming that he will in fact continue with the club until the expiration of his contract next summer:

Whilst Messi is set to stay put, however, it is an altogether different story for a host of the Blaugrana’s other stars.

Ivan Rakitic has of course already departed the club for Sevilla.

It has also been widely reported that Ronald Koeman made clear to both Arturo Vidal and Luis Suarez that they do not feature in his plans for the season ahead.

The former is therefore widely expected to secure a free agent switch to Inter Milan any day now.

Suarez’s next destination, meanwhile, had also long appeared decided, with the Uruguayan tipped to join Vidal in Serie A, with Juventus:

As outlined above, however, if the latest speculation stemming from Spain on Thursday is to be believed, then Suarez’s Bianconeri switch has not only been thrown into doubt, but could in fact be on the verge of a complete collapse.

This comes on the back of claims from TV3 and more, suggesting that Barcelona are now strongly considering keeping hold of their veteran striker.

Ronald Koeman is also rumoured to have had a change of heart, with the new Blaugrana boss now seeing Suarez ‘with good eyes’ ahead of the fast-approaching new season:
