Yet more updates regarding the Lionel Messi transfer saga have emerged online over the last 24 hours.

Messi’s father attends meeting

It was, of course, well documented that Messi’s father and representative, Jorge, arrived in Barcelona yesterday ahead of a meeting with the club’s hierarchy:

The purpose of the meeting was obviously to discuss Messi’s future, after he revealed late last month his desire to leave Barca.

In order to depart, Messi’s camp were aiming to use a clause in the Argentine’s contract which allows him to leave for free at the end of any given season, provided that sufficient notice is provided.

However, the Blaugrana are adamant that the clause is no longer active and Messi can only leave if his €700m release clause is paid.

And after the meeting on Wednesday, little looks to have changed regarding the two parties’ stances.

As per the Evening Standard, Jorge and Josep Bartomeu’s meeting reportedly lasted around 90 minutes and ended in with no real conclusion.

Messi’s father’s comments

Following the meeting, it was also reported in Argentina that there is a 90 per cent chance that Messi will stay at Barcelona, with a definitive decision expected on Thursday.

However, that claim was then disputed by the generally reliable Alfredo Martinez.

Martinez asserted that Jorge Messi plans to speak with his son on Thursday afternoon to define the steps and decisions to be taken regarding his future.

Crucially, Martinez added that no decision has yet been made:

However, Deportes Cuatro then reported that Messi’s father has confirmed there is a possibility that his son could stay at Barcelona:

In yet another turn in this saga, though, it was since been reported that Jorge has seen the above-linked video and claims he didn’t say ‘yes’ when asked about Messi staying another year:
