Marcelo Pitaluga’s move from Fluminense to Liverpool is “imminent”, according to a report in Brazil.
The Liverpool Echo claimed that the Reds were in talks with Fluminense about signing young goalkeeper earlier this week.
The 17-year-old is in the Brazil Under-17s set-up but has yet to earn a cap for his country. More importantly, he is on Fluminense’s transfer list with the Brazilian outfit club keen to raise funds.
And the move looks to have advanced quickly with Extra ,via Sport Witness, reporting the Rio de Janeiro club are negotiating hard with the Reds over their latest offer. They report says the move though is “a matter of time”.
Per the source, Liverpool’s bid consists of €1m up front, and another €1m depending on bonuses and has been described as ‘irrefutable’ both by Fluminense and the player.
The player is of German nationality and that will help the move run more smoothly because it will negate the need for a work permit in the UK.
Liverpool are also believed to have offered a job to the player’s father.
Pitaluga has yet to debut for Fluminense’s first team and he’s unlikely to play before he moves.
Liverpool have only completed one first-team deal so far this transfer window. Jurgen Klopp brought in left-back Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos last month.
Bielsa’s praise for Klopp
Meanwhile, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa says he could not add to the praise already handed to Klopp, ahead of Saturday’s clash between the sides.
The Whites mark their return to the Premier League with a trip to Anfield, where the newly-elected champions await.
Both sides made history with their respective achievements last season; for Leeds, they ended a 16-year wait for promotion, while the league title was Liverpool‘s first in 30 years.
As such, the respective managers have received praise from all sections of the game. Speaking in his inaugural Premier League pre-match press conference, though, Bielsa said there was nothing he could say to add to Klopp’s praise.
“With the work Klopp has done everywhere, that has given him the chance to shine everywhere,” the Argentine said.
“Anything I added would be repeating the praise he has already rightly received.”
When asked if he is a fan of Klopp’s heavy metal football, Bielsa responded with a rare witty answer.
“I’ve not got much culture in music so I wouldn’t know!”
