Jadon Sancho is drawing ever closer to sealing a move to Manchester United after a report put a new date on when the deal should be done by.
The England winger is a top target at Old Trafford after rising to prominence in the past three seasons with Borussia Dortmund.
However, the Bundesliga side insist Sancho is staying with them next season. That’s because United failed to agree a deal with them before pre-season began on August 10.
Nonetheless, reports insist negotiations between the clubs continue to take place.
Numerous outlets earlier this week claimed the “impasse over agents’ fees and wages has ended”.
That represents a huge step forward, but United of course still have to agree a fee with Dortmund. They are still believed to be sticking to their £108m price for the England star.
Only last week Bleacher Report claimed that United and Dortmund had agreed “to go about negotiations in a more respectful manner”.
Now it seems a deal is edging ever closer between the two clubs.
Now a huge claim in Norwegian paper Dagbladet claims there is renewed confidence in the United camp that Sancho will sign. As per the report, they state Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expecting Sancho to be signed in time for their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on September 19.
United have made slow progress on the transfer front this summer, bringing in just Donny van de Beek so far. Solskjaer admitted the Dutchman has been on his radar for a good number of years.
However, a deal for Sancho would not only shatter United’s transfer record, it would also bring a long chase to a satisfactory end.
United are reported to be paying £90m up front for Sancho with a further £18m in add-ons.
The Red Devils are also understood to have reserved the No 7 shirt for their prospective new arrival. Furthermore, a report in the Daily Star claims Sancho has already agreed personal terms on a five-year deal at Old Trafford. They state Sancho will become the club’s third-highest earner on a salary of £250,000 a week.
As per the article, only David De Gea (£350,000 a week) and Paul Pogba (£300,000) a week will earn more. His new deal would also put him £30,000 a week ahead of Marcus Rashford.
Sancho unfazed by transfer value
Despite the pressure that could come with being worth so much, Sancho insists he doesn’t consider his price tag.
“I guess it’s a nice feeling to be worth so much. But again, I don’t really look at it that much.
“For me it’s about doing well for my team and doing well for myself as well.
“When I have a s**t game I’m just down. I feel s**t about myself. So I always like having a good game and showing people what I can do.
“I know what I can do, and if I play bad then I’m just p***ed off with myself. Next game I’ll try and improve on whatever I’ve done wrong.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Sancho was asked if he had any regrets about leaving Manchester City in 2017. He simply responded: “Not at all.”
