Havertz signs for Chelsea

The big story stemming from England on Friday, of course, surrounded Chelsea securing the services of Kai Havertz.

The German is one of the brightest young talents in European football, having cemented himself as Bayer Leverkusen’s star man over the last couple of seasons.

As a result, confirmation that Chelsea had finally landed the versatile midfielder no doubt came as music to the ears of all involved with the Blues.

Chelsea’s links to Havertz had been rampant for some time now, with the Londoners having finally announced a little less than 24 hours ago that the 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge:

Havertz highlights Lampard impact

As is the norm, following his move being made official, Havertz spoke with Chelsea’s official website about a number of topics.

One such subject, meanwhile, came in the form of his new boss, Frank Lampard.

Despite his limited experience on the bench, Lampard certainly appears to have a pull when it comes to transfer targets.

Already this summer, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell have highlighted the role played by the Chelsea boss in their respective decisions to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

And now, Havertz has become the latest of the Londoners’ summer additions to detail Lampard’s involvement in his signing, with the German international having explained:

“Of course he had a big impact on my decision because I loved him as a player and watched him very often, and I think I can learn from him now he is a manager as well.

“I think he is a very humble person and a great guy and I can’t wait to play with him and learn from him.

“He was very offensive like me and he loves to score goals, and I love to score goals as well so I think he will help me a lot in my position. Also maybe on the things that I can improve and I can’t wait to work with him.”
