Liverpool defender Rhys Williams has signed a new long-term contract at Anfield.
The 19-year-old centre-half, yet to make a first-team appearance for the club, spent last season on loan at National League North side Kidderminster.
Liverpool announced Williams’ new deal on their official website, adding: “The defender is expected to begin the season with Barry Lewtas’ under-23s squad.”
Williams, an England youth international, has progressed through the age groups since joining Liverpool’s academy as a 10-year-old and played a key role in the club’s Youth Cup-winning team in 2019.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have been warned they face another Timo Werner situation after Manchester United entered the market for Thiago.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was keen on a move for Werner, but the champions had to withdraw their interest in the striker at Easter when they realised his price tag was around £53m.
The RB Leipzig attacker eventually signed for Chelsea, leaving Liverpool to look elsewhere to deepen their squad.
And the champions have been warned that a similar scenario is on the horizon regarding Thiago.
The Bayern Munich ace wants to leave the Bundesliga champions this summer, with claims he is keen on playing for Klopp at Anfield.
Klopp has cooled the talk and publicly Liverpool have been eager to distance themselves from the transfer speculation.
Over the weekend The Sun claimed Manchester United are also keen on Thiago.
