Manchester United have been urged to continue their spending with two more signings after last week’s deal for Donny van de Beek.
Former United Academy defender Danny Higginbotham believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to continue the transfer momentum.
The former Stoke star wants United to complete a deal for Jadon Sancho and add a centre-back in order to bridge the gap to Manchester City and Liverpool.
United quickly sealed a £40m move for Dutch international Van de Beek last week from Ajax with everyone believing their were focused on signing Sancho.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still in the hunt for Sancho, with Bleacher Report claiming last week that United and Dortmund had agreed “to go about negotiations in a more respectful manner”.
United officials felt there was too much information being leaked to the media and so that is why the Sancho talk has gone quiet in recent weeks.
More ‘respectful’ talks
Dortmund are believed to be holding out for a fee of £108m, but the report claims “two of the big sticking points have been wage demands and agent fees”.
But from now on do not expect as much detailed information on the deal with Dortmund agreeing to keep things in house.
Higginbotham though still wants Solskjaer to sign the England winger and says a deal for Sancho would be “absolutely brilliant”.
Higginbotham told ESPN: “I think from Manchester United’s perspective they need to look at it and say ‘we need to close the gap to Manchester City and we need to close the gap to Liverpool’, and I think they need a couple more signings.
“In an ideal world I think they need another centre-back. If they could get Sancho in, that would be absolutely brilliant.
“Then, they could start to ask questions about the top two in particular.
“At the moment, Liverpool and Manchester City are light years ahead in the Premier League.”
