A report in the English media on Thursday has linked Manchester United with Sergio Reguilon
Who is Sergio Reguilon?
Reguilon, 23, is a product of Real Madrid’s youth system.
However, to this point, he has managed just 22 appearances for Los Blancos’ senior side.
This struggle for regular first-team minutes eventually led to the left-back joining fellow Spanish outfit Sevilla on loan for the 2019/20 campaign.
And to say that the stopper went on to grasp this opportunity with both hands would be something of an understatement.
Reguilon notched 31 La Liga appearances this past season, in which he scored two, assisted four, and helped Sevilla to secure a Champions League spot.
The left-back also played a key role in Sevilla clinching their latest Europa League title last month.
The Nervionenses were also the owners of the third-tightest defence in the Spanish top-flight, with only the two Madrid clubs having conceded fewer goals.
Man United keeping tabs on Reguilon
Such exploits have, unsurprisingly, seen Reguilon linked with a number of top sides.
The defender appeared to have attracted significant interest from the Premier League, with both Chelsea and Everton linked of late.
But with Chelsea having since secured Ben Chilwell’s services, you would imagine they will no longer be in the market for Reguilon.
And this could now prove great news for another Premier League side who appear to be eyeing the Spaniard.
As per a report from the Manchester Evening News on Thursday, the Red Devils are monitoring Reguilon amid uncertainty over their full-back situation.
United do, of course, currently have Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams for that spot. But the former is currently injured and the MEN report that Williams was criticised by some for his performances towards the end of last season.
Roma bid for Smalling
Elsewhere on the United front, Roma are believed to have made a bid for Chris Smalling.
Smalling spent 2019/20 on loan with the Serie A outfit and had a largely successful spell.
This, in turn, led to reports that Roma were aiming to sign the stopper permanently, though an agreement over a fee did look to be some way off back in August.
Now, as per Goal, the Italians have re-opened transfer talks with United over Smalling with a €12m offer understood to be on the table.
