Manchester United’s hopes of signing Alex Telles appear to be fading after their £15.4m offer for the Porto left-back was reportedly rejected.
United are rapidly running out of a time to secure a deal for the Brazil international, with the transfer window closing for Premier League clubs at 11pm on Monday evening.
The Red Devils’ offer of £15.4m for Telles is comfortably below the £22m that Porto are demanding.
United chanced their arm over a lower offer, given that the 27-year-old is in the final year of his contract.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still keen to bring in a new left-back to add competition for Luke Shaw.
The England full-back has struggled with injuries since arriving at Old Trafford in 2014. Brandon Williams, meanwhile, is still considered two inexperienced to start on a regular basis.
Telles arrived at Porto from Galatasaray in 2016 and has won two Portuguese league titles in nearly 200 appearances for the club.
United’s latest rejection is the latest blow to what has been an incredibly frustrating summer.
The only addition to the senior squad remains Donny van de Beek from Ajax, despite continuous attempts to sign Jadon Sancho.
There are two deals on the horizon, however, with Edinson Cavani expected to wrap up his free transfer switch before Monday.
Cavani’s fellow Uruguayan, winger Facundo Pellistri, is also being tipped to join from Atletico Penarol.
United win race for centre-back
Manchester United have reportedly won the race to sign highly-rated young centre-back Willy Kambwala.
The 16-year-old is set to leave Sochaux’s academy in France to join the Red Devils under-18 side.
United, along with Liverpool, were linked with Kambwala earlier in the summer but no agreement was reached.
Kambwala was born in DR Congo, but has been called up by France at Under-16 level.
He will continue United’s process of bringing in top young talent over the past 18 months or so. There have also been another eight additions to the academy squad so far this year, prior to Kambwala.
