A Wolves star linked with Liverpool over the summer has had what it would take to secure his signature revealed by the head of his agency.
The Reds are currently in the midst of an injury crisis affecting several areas of their squad.
Centre-halves Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are both expected to miss the vast majority of the season. While the untimely news of Mohamed Salah’s positive Covid-19 test compounded Jurgen Klopp’s woes.
The German does possess one of the deepest squads in the Premier League, however. The summer acquisitions of prominent figures Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota saw to that.
The latter signed from Wolves in a deal worth approximately £41m, but for large parts of the window, it appeared as if it could’ve been another club winger making the switch.
The speedy winger – who Trent Alexander-Arnold recounted giving him a hellish game – has struggled to recapture his form of old this season, and has been afforded just three league starts.
Nevertheless, his talent and threat remains undiminished. Now, his agency’s head has spoken to the Italian media over what would be required to acquire his client.
“A player of Traoré’s level can play anywhere, he can make a difference at any time and, obviously, economically requires a significant investment [to sign him].
“It is difficult to talk about the transfer market. The effects of Covid-19 will unfortunately be heavy on football. Soon the clubs will make themselves heard with the government.”
Reports in the prior window put Traore’s value around the £60m-70m mark.
Klopp backed to solve defensive crisis
Meanwhile, Sir Kenny Dalglish has backed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to make the right decisions regarding his defensive injury crisis.
In addition to their central defensive issues, England ace Alexander-Arnold is sidelined for the next month with a calf problem picked up against Manchester City.
There is the option of brining in a free agent player on loan or waiting until the transfer window reopens.
Dalglish admits times are tough but is adamant that Klopp will make the right call.
